state, "there were no changes in the control group." This suggests that data of the control group were not compared with the data of the study groups, but data of different time points were compared within the group. It is therefore of interest that the number of five patients is too low, and with nonparametric data it is hard to dem¬ onstrate any statistically significant change. Additionally, it is known that the vasodilator properties of dopexamine can induce a fall in BP, which can be corrected by the addition of extra fluids.1,2 However, the authors do not describe the fluid requiiements of the patients during the study group, although in our opinion, these data are of interest. Finally, we assume the given doses were in micrograms not mil¬ ligrams as stated, and that not all data in the tables were "after dopexamine."

Thoracoscopic thymectomy for myasthenia gravis: a case report.

Total thymectomy combined with medical therapy is currently the most effective therapeutic strategy for patients with myasthenia gravis. The standard approach for total thymectomy is that of a median sternotomy. Other approaches include the cervical approach and partial sternotomy. We report a patient who underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy at our institution. There was no postope...

[Video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy for the treatment of myasthenia gravis].

OBJECTIVE Traditionally, thymectomy for myasthenia gravis has been performed using either a transcervical approach or a median sternotomy. However, excision of the thymic tissue by video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is less aggressive and recovery is faster. The aim of this study was to evaluate the usefulness and outcomes of video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy. PATIENTS AND METHODS Ove...

Uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy

Thymectomy is the treatment for thymoma or Myasthenia Gravis patients. With the development of thoracoscopic surgical instruments and techniques in recent years, single port video assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy is increasingly practiced for such patients. Although single port thymectomy is feasible and may be preferable, there is a lack of detailed step-by-step procedures outlined in the lit...

Minimally invasive radical thymectomy.

We present the case of a 54-year-old female with longstanding history of myasthenia gravis, on whom an anti ACH antibody test was positive. We performed a minimally invasive video-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy (VATS) on this patient. Preoperatively, the patient was stabilized with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) and Mestinon (Pyridostigmine). The pre-operative workup included a computed t...

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery or transsternal thymectomy in the treatment of myasthenia gravis?

A best evidence topic in thoracic surgery was written according to a structured protocol. The question addressed was how video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) compares to median sternotomy in the surgical management of patients with myasthenia gravis (MG)? Overall 74 papers were found using the reported search, of which 15 represented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The...

Inhalation Vs Total Intravenous Anesthesia For Robot-Assisted Thymectomy

With the advent of robotic-assisted thoracoscopic thymectomy (RATT), increased surgical precision and resolution of symptoms has been observed for treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG). Compared to transsternalthymectomy, RATT results in less blood loss, better aesthetic sequelae, lower complications, less postoperative pain and decreased length of hospital stay [1-3]. Despite of this, the anesth...
